Location: Room B, Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics, Old Road Campus

This one-day workshop looks at the challenges that some postdocs face when they find themselves, either by delegation or default, managing their colleagues. It looks at what it means to manage others, the sources of authority they can call on, how to draw on what motivates researchers to help get the best out of colleagues, and how to use non-directive coaching to handle those instances when they may not have all the answers. Participants should be senior postdocs who actively manage their colleagues either when their PI is away or on a more regular or long-term basis, but who have had no training in managing others. The content does not cover supervising the work of students and will not be very useful to those whose role is only to do this. The focus is on managing other postdocs, research assistants and others who are salaried.
